Park to Broad staff joined leaders from Lower North CDC, North Broad Renaissance, Fairmount Civic Association, Friends of Eastern State Penitentiary Park, Lemon Hill Neighbors Association and United Francisville Civic Association for a Vision Zero Roundtable hosted by the Office of Multimodal Planning and Managing Director’s Office of Transportation & Infrastructure at Coffee Cream and Dreams on Fairmount Avenue.
The gathering was one of several being held citywide informing creation of the city’s Vision Zero Action Plan 2030 to guide Philadelphia’s traffic safety initiatives through the end of the decade. Attendees discussed ways to create safer neighborhoods for all, promote healthy modes of transportation, and eliminate traffic deaths.
Before the meeting, we asked participants to identify their communities’ priorities for increasing safety in local public spaces. We hope neighbors will continue to work with our groups to advocate for improvements to these and other vital spaces. The immediate priorities included (in no order):
Girard Ave Bridge and 33rd and Girard intersection
Safe pedestrian and cycling access to and through Fairmount Park
Crossing times at Kelly Drive and Sedgley Drive
Parking protected bike lane on Sedgley Drive
The Lemon Hill Loop and intersections of Lemon Hill Drive, Poplar Drive and Sedgley Drive, as well as Poplar Street and Poplar Drive
Pennsylvania Avenue between 22nd and 27th Streets, and the intersection with Pennsylvania Avenue and Spring Garden Street
The intersection of 22nd Street and Spring Garden
